Misaki town is known to have the freshest maguro (tuna) and its vegetables are raved to be better than all others. Rather than being pushed around at the super touristic Tsukiji, I decided to head over to Misaki morning market.
Its about 2 hour drive from Tokyo (80km), a great place to go if you want to explore the countryside ⤴︎ ε=ε=(ง ˃̶͈̀ᗨ˂̶͈́)۶ ⤴︎
I left my house around 4 am in Tokyo, way before daylight even crept in. The drive went smoothly and reached Misaki by sunrise. Yes, you have to go super early here as it closes by 9 am ꒰⁎×﹏×⁎꒱
The morning market is rather small but by the end of it, I went home with a trunk full of goods ヾ（〃＾∇＾）ﾉ♪
Because the area is known for its maguro, there were many stores that sold all parts of the Tuna fish. Otoro, kiriotoshi, tataki..you name it! I bought trio sashimi slices – otoro, chutoro and akami – for 2000 yen. Decent amount for 3 ٩(๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)>
You can try bargaining with the fisherman, but I recommend attempting it an hour before closing. I managed to get 250g end cuts of sashimi for free with my earlier purchase :3
The place also sell beans, pork, bread, tofu and others. My mom got 500g of bacon for 400 yen (3 USD)
The stores will start cutting down its price around 7 am, where it can go as low as 70% its original price. So if you arrive too early, grab some breakfast! I recommend the Tonjiru pork soup.
Maguro Bukake Don tasted super fresh! But for 700 yen, I expected a little more tuna.
This place is educational too ¯\_( ͠° ͟ʖ °͠ )_/¯ check out its cardboard aquarium (´^ิ益^ิ｀ )
The beauty of newly harvested produce being lined up and sold by the farmers is my kind of entertainment (((o(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)o)))
Got tons and tons of mushrooms! 3 packets (540g total) of Enoki for 100 yen (1 USD)! Even the fruits were a lot cheaper than Tokyo.
Managed to get a bouquet of flowers for only 450 yen (4 USD)
Oh boy I jumped with joy when I saw a vendor selling peanuts! And its from Chiba, known for its peanuts (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و ﾖｼ!
1 kg of peanuts for 1000 yen was definitely cheap. In Tokyo, you can only get 200g (•ิ_•ิ)
I also dropped by to Sakanakan, which was just a block away from the morning market.
This place had all kinds of frozen fish! Bought a bunch and cooked it for for dinner…woah! the quality was just sublime, its like Hokkaido level. The fish were definitely fatter and meaty than supermarket ones and oh yes..it was cheap.
3 fillet for 1000 yen was a great deal. I bought Hokke (mackerel) cuz its my favourite (ૢ˃ꌂ˂⁎) ｳｼｼ but best to buy the stores recommendation. Which is normally whatever fish that is in season.
Overall, a great place to go on a Sunday morning and recommended for those that like to drive. The breakfast there made my belly happy and seeing the jubilant fishermen made me like the town more. I mean come on….great food, great people, cheap, fresh air….the list just goes on. Go check out this place with your own eyes and hopefully you guys will have a blast ✌(‘ω’)✌
