One of my all time favorite, TONKATSUU (fried pork cutlet) ┗|*｀0´*|┛
My go-to place is normally Wako // 和幸, but with the hype of Tonkatsu Aoki all over media…I just had to try it out myself!! (｡･ｗ･｡ )//
Aoki rose to fame for its particular cooking method in which its tonkatsu are served ‘rare’ W(“o“)W~~うそぉぉーっっ
Alright its kinda exaggerated. Was disappointed when mine came…was more medium-well…ish? If you prefer your meat to be thoroughly cooked let them know upon ordering //よく揚げ~￣O￣)ノ
A prominent restaurant = queue. But my oh my! Not a single person outside when I got there. Skipped my way to my seat ヽ(*´∇｀)ﾉ
But expect to queue 30 mins or more! To speed things up, staff will take orders whilst you queue, so best to check out the menu while waiting.
Thick slices of Hayashi SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) pork are used to attain that hella juicy pink pork. Thus recommended to enjoy your tonkatsu with salt. They got 4 types of salt and BLEHHHH the Pakistan salt tasted like sulfur, stay away from that >_<
There are 4 cuts available: Fillet (ひれ), Loin (ロース), Shoulder (肩ロース) and Rib chop (リブロース)
If you’re gonna eat at a specialised restaurant order the best, in this case anything that says “tokujou” (written as 特上)
I ordered the special pork fillet set, which I recommend to those seeking something less fatty and heavy. The set comes with rice, salad and miso soup.
100 points in frying! The crunchiness was like eating crackling (≧ڡ≦*)
The tonkatsu wasn’t oily and the 200g fried goodness was juicy.
Succulent and tender, could easily eat another cutlet. Personally liked the Bolivian salt with the pork fillet.
Beautiful loin pork cutlet with spices from the curry teasing my palate :3
Great way to welcome the summer. I just had to eat the iconic Japanese meal of katsu curry
The curry was mild and can also be ordered separately for 200 yen. Unless you have a desperate craving for curry order other dishes.
Seriously, go for the special pork fillet or loin
I felt that the curry took away the crispy factor from tonkatsu!! If you’re a slow eater like me…..the curry roux bubbles away the flaky outer layer(ＴｗＴ。) Destiny of the tonkatsu ended as a very sad love story.
The service was fast but they did rush me to order, made me agitated by their attitude. Yet its understandable why they encourage customers to order fast and at least they were nice enough to let me change seats. Go for the counter seats!! since its an open kitchen, its always entertaining to see how they cook (ू•ᴗ•ू❁)
If you can’t finish your meal you can always ask for a take-away box! If you don’t have time to dine, they do take out.
⋇ TLDR ⋇
Popular tonkatsu restaurant serving pink pork cutlet and only uses Hayashi SPF pork. Recommend getting the “tokujou” set of either fillet or loin (2000 yen or 17 USD). I had the fillet, great job frying! Inside was soft and only required a little bit of salt to bring out the umami of the pork. Go for the loin if you want something more juicy.
Value for money 3/5
